Day 1 - Moscow / Embarkation

MS Volga Dream – Meals D Day 2 - Uglich A traditional Russian welcome ceremony of bread and salt begins your walking tour of this lovely Golden Ring town, founded in the 10th century. Visit the imposing Church of St. Demitrius of the Blood, built on the site where Ivan the Terrible’s son Dimitry was assassinated. Meals B,L,D Day 3 - Yaroslavl#WHS# You’ll be delighted by the captivating beauty of one of Russia’s oldest cities with lovingly preserved churches from the 13th to 17th centuries. In the Savior Transfiguration Monastery, the murals of St. John’s apocalyptic visions are moving and your visit to the 17th century Church of St. Elijah includes amazing frescoes painted by renowned Russian artists. Before returning to ship, browse through a local market to experience a bit of daily life along the Volga. Meals B,L,D Day 4 - Goritzy Sail across the scenic White Lake, once known as the “Czar’s Fishing Grounds”, to the charming village of Goritzy for a visit to the famous Kirill-Belozersky Monastery, founded in 1397 by the hermit, Saint Cyril. Your guided tour includes the monastery’s small wooden chapels, museum and the superb medieval frescoes of the Cathedral of the Assumption. Later, your ship continues its voyage toward Lake Onega. Meals B,L,D Day 5 - Kizhi Island Cruise Lake Onega, Europe’s second largest lake, to Kizhi Island#WHS# for a walking tour of the Open Air Museum of Architecture, with stellar examples of traditional Russian wooden structures, including windmills, houses and churches. Most impressive is the 300-year-old Church of the Transfiguration, an onion-domed fantasy with 22 cupolas hand-built with chisels and axes and without a single nail. Meals B,L,D Day 6 - Svir River & Mondraga View a rugged and majestic landscape of the Svir River with timber rafts and log piles dotting the river banks. Call on Mondraga, a reconstructed village built on the shore of the Svir to illustrate the traditions and lifestyle of Russia's past. This delightful stop allows you to visit the wooden homes and see many craftsmen making local ceramics, lace and popular matrioshkas (nesting dolls), and to enjoy a traditional Russian barbecue lunch. Day 7 - Valaam Archipelago The history of the Valaam archipelago in Lake Ladoga stretches back more than a thousand years. Visit one of these historic islands and tour the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior, set against a spectacular backdrop of granite ledges and mountains. The monastery’s choir will perform an inspiring concert before you set sail for St. Petersburg#WHS#. Meals B,L,D Day 8 - St. Petersburg / Disembarkation Arrive today in the city of Peter the Great, founded over 300 years ago in a picturesque region of islands and waterways along the shores of the Gulf of Finland.
